What is a Detail Layer?
Adding structure layers or “Detail Layers” to a place defined on the canvas is only found in the Offline
Campus Manager. A Detail Layer is used to give a place depth, such as a multi-story building with
five floors with Detail Layers representing each floor. Another example might be a room on a floor plan
with a Detail Layer showing several servers on a rack. See below for a diagram of what a Detail Layer
is and how they work.
Select the desired place and click
the Add New Detail Layer button.

From the Resource Dialog, select the map, floor plan
or other image.

Creating a Detail Layer
Here are the steps for creating a detail layer:
Selected Place
This selected place has been defined as a
multi-story building. Detail layers can be
used to add individual floors to this building.
3rd Floor Detail Layer
2nd Floor Detail Layer
1st Floor Detail Layer
With each Detail Layer more
places can be added. As with
its parent, those places can have
even deeper levels of Detail Layers.
There is no limit to the number of
Detail Layer levels that can be added.
