(Please refer to

Manufacturer’s
Owner’s Manual
for engine-
specific
procedures.
)

Are you sitting on seat? Is parking brake set? Engine

will not start unless one of those two conditions is met.

Is the key in the START position?

Are you using fresh, clean gas? If the gas is old,

change it. Use a fuel stabilizer if you keep gas longer
than one month.

Check the throttle adjustment and cable travel.

Is the spark plug clean? If the spark plug is dirty or

cracked, change it. If it’s oily, leave it out, hold a rag
over the plug hole and crank the engine briefly to blow
out any oil in the cylinder, then wipe off the plug and
reinsert it.

Is the air filter clean? If not, clean or replace it.

Check connections for the Operator Presence switch

beneath the seat cushion, at the key switch, and at the
engine.

If your engine still won’t start, call 1(800) DR-OWNER

(376-9637) for assistance.

Have you checked all the items in the Starting section

on page 10? If not, do so now.

Check wire connections — especially the ground

connection (large black wire coming from the battery)
where it connects to the frame.
