Shift Cable Adjustment

Inspection

Shift cable adjustment is necessary when any of the following
is noticed:

• Noise on deceleration.
• Inability to engage a gear.
• Excessive gear clash (noise).
• Gear selector is moving out of

desired range.

Inspect the shift cable, clevis
pins, and pivot bushings and
replace if worn or damaged.
Check the cable adjustment per
the following procedure.

WARNING!

Avoid Injury Or Death.
Stop engine and chock both rear
tires before inspecting or adjusting
the shift cable.

1. Stop the vehicle on flat

level surface, put the gear
selector in PARK and stop
the engine.

2. Chock the wheels.
3. With the gear selector lever

(Item 1) in the Park position. Make sure the lever (Item 1)
is not contacting the bottom of the shift slot (Item 2).

4. Move the gear selector lever (Item 1) to the High position.

Make sure the lever (Item 3) is not contacting the top of
the shift slot (Item 4).

If there is any contact at either the bottom (Item 2) or the top
(Item 4) of the gear selector shift slot, the shift cable will need
to be adjusted. Do the following:

Adjustment

1. Loosen the jam nuts (Item 5

and 6).

2. Rotate the two jam nuts

(Item 5 and 6), as needed, to

move the gear selector lever

up or down so the lever

does not contact the slot at

either the bottom or top

position.

3. Evenly tighten the two jam

nuts (Item 5 and 6) until

tight to the cable mount.

4. Check operation of the gear

selector. (Have the vehicle

in an open area with no bystanders or place the vehicle on

jack stands.) Start the engine. With the gear selector in

Park (the P light will be illuminated), slowly increase the

travel control pedal in the forward direction. No utility

vehicle movement should occur and no gear clash noise

detected. Shift into High gear (the H light will be illumi-

nated), slowly increase the travel control pedal in the for-

ward direction to check forward travel. Shift into Low

gear (the L light will be illuminated), slowly increase the

travel control pedal in the forward direction to check for-

ward travel. Move the gear selector to neutral (the N light

will be illuminated), slowly increase the travel control

pedal in the forward direction. No utility vehicle move-

ment should occur and no gear clash noise detected.

If the gear selector lever and cable can not be adjusted as indi-

cated above, see your dealer for service.
