Setting options

PCM ONLY

DOLBY DIGITAL/

PCM

• STREAM/PCM

Set this correctly according to the external component connected to the DIGITAL OUT
connectors on the rear.
• See “Digital output signal chart” on page 92 for details about the relation between the

setting and output signals.

PCM ONLY:

Select when connecting to the linear PCM digital input connector
of other audio equipment such as an MD recorder.

DOLBY DIGITAL/PCM:

Select when connecting the digital input connector of a Dolby
Digital decoder or an amplifier with a built-in Dolby Digital
decoder.

STREAM/PCM:

Select when connecting the digital input connector of an
amplifier with a built-in DTS, MPEG Multichannel or Dolby
Digital decoder, or the stand-alone unit of such a decoder.

DOLBY

SURROUND

• STEREO

To correctly play the audio in a DVD Video disc recorded with surround multichannel audio,
set this properly according to your audio system configuration.

DOLBY SURROUND:

Select when listening to multichannel surround audio through a
surround decoder connected to the DVD/HDD AUDIO OUT and
L-1 IN/OUT connectors on the rear.

STEREO:

Select when listening to conventional two-channel stereo audio
through an amplifier or receiver connected to the DVD/HDD
AUDIO OUT and L-1 IN/OUT connectors on the rear.
You can also connect a MiniDisc recorder, cassette deck, etc. to
record through the DVD/HDD AUDIO OUT (and L-1 IN/OUT)
connectors on the rear.

NOTE

This function does not take effect when 3D PHONIC is activated.

WIDE RANGE

• NORMAL

TV MODE

This setting provides optimal audio quality through the DVD/HDD AUDIO OUT and L-1 IN/
OUT connectors on the rear, for listening to DVD Video discs recorded in Dolby Digital
format, at low or middle volume.

WIDE RANGE:

Select to enjoy powerful playback sound with the widest dynamic range.

NORMAL:

Normally, select this.

TV MODE:

Select if DVD Video disc sound level is lower than TV programme sound
level. Thus you can hear sound at a lower volume clearly.

OUTPUT LEVEL

Setting options

• STANDARD

LOW

This setting allows you to attenuate the level of the signal output through the DVD/HDD
AUDIO OUT and L-1 IN/OUT connectors on the rear.

STANDARD:

Normally, select this.

LOW:

Select if the reproduced sounds are distorted.
