Cache Residency Manager

The volumes that are applied using Cache Residency Manager can be assigned to XP Continuous
Access pairs, and Cache Residency Manager operations can be performed on XP Continuous
Access P-VOLs and S-VOLs.

For further information on Cache Residency Manager, see HP XP24000/XP20000 Cache Residency
Manager User Guide
.

LUN Manager

LUN Manager operations do not affect XP Continuous Access operations. Volumes that are under
secure ports and/or assigned to host groups can also be assigned to XP Continuous Access pairs.
Volumes that are assigned to XP Continuous Access pairs can also be assigned to secure ports or
host groups for LUN Manager.

For further information on LUN Manager, see HP XP24000/XP20000 LUN Manager User Guide.

XP Continuous Access S-VOLs cannot be accessed by a UNIX/PC server host except when the pair
is split.

XP Thin Provisioning

The virtual volume of Thin Provisioning (TP-VOL) can be assigned to XP Continuous Access
Synchronous pairs, provided that both primary and secondary volume are the TP-VOLs.

To use the TP-VOLs that are also used by an XP Business Copy pair or an XP Auto LUN migration
plan, perform the following steps. For more information on using XP Auto LUN Software, see the
HP XP24000/XP20000 Auto LUN Software User Guide.

1.

Release the XP Business Copy pair and disable the XP Auto LUN setting.

2.

Create the XP Continuous Access Synchronous pair. Re-create the XP Business Copy pair, and
the XP Auto LUN migration plan if needed.

When you specify the TP-VOL that has the allocated pages to the S-VOL of the XP Continuous
Access Synchronous pair, be aware of the following:

The used pool capacity is temporarily larger than the actual used capacity because pages
must be reallocated in the TP-VOL.

Before you create the pair, make sure that the TP-VOL pool capacity is large enough.

Before you create the pair, make sure that the Pool-VOLs, that are added to a pool, are not
blocked. If the Pool-VOLs are blocked, restore the volume status, then create the pair.

Software User Guide

Performance Monitor

Performance Monitor software provides detailed information on the I/O activity and hardware
performance of the storage systems. Performance Monitor can be used to monitor the storage
systems that will be (or already are) performing XP Continuous Access operations. The storage
