system usage and performance data collected and displayed by Performance Monitor enables
you to:

Identify the optimum timings to perform XP Continuous Access data duplexing operations (for
example, during periods of light system I/O activity),

Determine the best locations for the XP Continuous Access S-VOLs (for example, in parity
groups with less frequently accessed volumes to avoid bottlenecks of backend activity),

Monitor storage system performance during XP Continuous Access operations and during
testing activities.

Performance Monitor data collection does not affect storage system operations in any way. However,
Performance Monitor data collection can cause a significant amount of traffic on the storage system
internal LAN, especially when Performance Monitor is collecting a large amount of LDEV data. To
prevent timeouts from occurring while you are performing XP Continuous Access (or other) operations
on the Remote Web Console computer, you may want to decrease the Performance Monitor data
collection activities before using the other storage system program products. This reduces the
storage system's internal LAN traffic, so that inquiries and commands issued by the Remote Web
Console computer can be processed more quickly.

For further information on Performance Monitor, see the HP XP24000/XP20000 Performance
Monitor User's Guide
.

To perform XP Continuous Access (or other) operations while Performance Monitor is collecting
data for one or more storage systems on the same storage system internal LAN:

1.

If Performance Monitor is collecting a large amount of LDEV data, consider disabling
Performance Monitor LDEV data collection for one or more storage systems before using the
other storage system program products. See the HP XP24000/XP20000 Performance Monitor
User Guide
for instructions on disabling LDEV data collection.

2.

If Performance Monitor is collecting data for more than three storage systems on the storage
system internal LAN, consider disconnecting Performance Monitor from one or more storage
systems before using the other storage system program products. See the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Performance Monitor User Guide
for instructions on disconnecting
Performance Monitor.

3.

After you have disabled LDEV data collection and/or disconnected Performance Monitor, you
can connect to the storage system using Remote Web Console software, launch the XP
Continuous Access software, and perform XP Continuous Access operations (for example,
create pairs, view pair status).

4.

When you are finished performing XP Continuous Access operations, exit XP Continuous
Access, and disconnect Remote Web Console from the storage system.

5.

After you have disconnected Remote Web Console from the storage system, you can re-enable
Performance Monitor data collection.

XP Performance Control Software

XP Performance Control Software can give a higher priority to the I/O operations of a server that
requires a higher processing performance than the I/O operations on other servers. XP Performance
Control can set the priority for I/O operation to ports, but if the remote copy is performed with the
Fibre Channel interface connection, the initiator ports do not support the XP Performance Control
option.

For further information on XP Performance Control, see the HP XP24000/XP20000 Performance
Control User Guide
.
