NOTE: HP does not recommend using iLO or the OA to make changes to a device. Making
changes to a device from its iLO or OA could cause it to become out of synchronization with the
appliance.
You can manually refresh the connection between the appliance and an enclosure from the
Enclosures screen. Refreshing an enclosure will refresh all devices in it. See the online help for the
Enclosures screen to learn more.
20.4.1 About unmanaged and unsupported enclosures
Unmanaged enclosures
An unmanaged enclosure is one that is not managed by the appliance. See “About unmanaged
devices” (page 126) to learn more about unmanaged devices.
Firmware that does not meet the minimum requirements can cause an enclosure to be unmanaged.
To bring the enclosure under management update the firmware.
Unsupported enclosures
An unsupported enclosure cannot be managed by the appliance. However, you can place
unsupported enclosures in racks. Adding unsupported enclosures to the appliance enables you to
account for the physical space the enclosure occupies in a rack for planning and inventory purposes.
The appliance displays basic information about unsupported enclosures, such as the model name,
OA name, and the number of OAs in the enclosure.
You can specify the maximum power for the unsupported enclosure, which allows you to define
its power capacity and enables the appliance to generate alerts when maximum capacity is
reached.
NOTE: Unsupported hardware that is within enclosures is not handled by the enclosure directly.
If the appliance detects an unsupported device in an enclosure, a notification links to the screen
for the hardware type (for example, an unsupported server blade alert links to the Server Hardware
screen).
20.5 About enclosure groups
An enclosure group is a logical resource that defines a set of enclosures that use the same
configuration for network connectivity. The network connectivity for an enclosure group is defined
by the logical interconnect group associated with the enclosure group. This ensures that each
enclosure has an identically configured logical interconnect and the same configuration for network
connectivity.
20.6 Configuring an enclosure with an OA configuration script
20.6.1 About OA configuration scripts
Use configuration scripts to simplify new enclosure deployment and configuration, particularly
when setting up multiple enclosures, eliminating the need to configure each enclosure manually.
Capturing your best practices and compliance rules, the script is copied to, and then run on the
enclosure when it is added to an enclosure group that contains a configuration script. You can
create, edit, or delete an enclosure configuration script from either the Enclosure Groups screen or
the Enclosures screen.
