Table 1 Siz Requirements

Specification

Pair objects

Logical devices (LDEVs): Mainframe and

multiplatform devices that are supported by storage

system, including custom-size devices of Virtual LVI.

Devices must be installed and formatted. The S-VOL

and T-VOL must be of the same type and same

size (e.g., 3390-3R to 3390-3R allowed, 3380-K

to 3390-9 not allowed). A custom-size S-VOL must

be paired with a T-VOL of the same type and same

size. A combination of mainframe and multiplatform

devices for creating a Hitachi ShadowImage pair is

supported. Open volumes (e.g., OPEN-3, OPEN-9,

OPEN-E) are not supported.
Volumes that are specified as URz journal volumes

cannot be specified as S-VOLs or T-VOLs.

NOTE:

There is no restriction on the controller emulation

type for Siz operations. The controller emulation

type for the S-VOL and T-VOL can be the same

or different (for example, 3990 S-VOL and 2105

T-VOL).

Ask your HP account team for the latest information

on supported device types.

Available volume

Siz can use the volume with control unit image:

logical device ID (CU:LDEV) between 00:00 and

3F:FF.

Number of copies

Maximum three copies (T-VOLs) per source volume

(S-VOL).

Maximum number of pairs

Maximum of 8,192 pairs (8,192 S-VOLs and 8,192

T-VOLs) can be created per storage system. The

maximum number of pairs equals the total number of

Siz, FlashCopy, XP Business Copy, XP Auto LUN, XP

Snapshot, and Flex Copy XP volume pairs.

Maximum number of T-VOLs

8,192 reserved volumes per storage system.

Combinations of RAID levels

All combinations supported: RAID1-RAID1,

RAID5-RAID5, RAID1-RAID5, RAID5-RAID1,

RAID6-RAID6, RAID1-RAID6, RAID5-RAID6,

RAID6-RAID1, RAID6-RAID5.

Dynamic sparing and auto correction copy

If a failure occurs that requires use of dynamic sparing

or automatic correction copy, the status of the paired

volumes associated with the failed physical device

is not affected.
