You can adjust a clip’s speed parameters to create fast-motion or slow-motion effects.
You can also add speed keyframes to change the speed of a clip over time.

Final Cut Pro offers several methods of creating speed effects. You can create speed effects
using the Change Speed and Change Speed Segment dialogs, the Speed tool in the Tool
palette, the keyframe graph area of the Timeline, the Speed parameter in the Motion tab
of the Viewer, and the fit to fill edit feature.

Speed Basics

The default speed of all clips is 100 percent, but you can change a clip’s speed setting at
any time.

Slow motion: Speed is under 100 percent.

Fast motion: Speed is over 100 percent.

Variable speed: Speed changes over time.

You can apply constant speed changes as you can when working with slow-motion or
fast-motion changes, or you can create variable speed changes to create sophisticated
effects.
