Stroke Volume and Stroke Index

Cardiac output and heart rate measurements are used to calculate the stroke volume (the
volume of blood ejected from a ventricle at each beat of the heart). Stroke Index is the stroke
volume normalized for body mass.

Calculating Stroke Volume:

1.

Display page 2 of the “Hemodynamics” menu (a submenu of

, see page 8).

Press

followed by

. A menu of stroke calculations is displayed:

Press

followed by

. A screen for entering cardiac output (if not already

calculated) and heart rate is displayed:

4.

Enter the cardiac output and heart rate, using the number keys. After each value
is entered, check that the value is correct and press

to move the cursor to

the next line.

Note:

If cardiac output was already calculated, the value will be displayed.

If an incorrect value is displayed, delete numerals from the right by
pressing

once for each numeral to be deleted.

5.

After all values have been entered, press

to confirm. The calculated stroke

volume is displayed:

6.

Press

when done. The menu of stroke calculations is again displayed.

7.

Press

to return to the previous menu, if desired.
