TRANSAXLE COOLING

The transm ission fan and cooling fins

should be kept clean to assure proper
cooling.

Do not attem pt to clean fan or transm is

sion w hile engine is running or w hile the

transm ission is hot. To prevent possible

dam age to seals, do not use high pressure
w ater or steam to clean transaxle.
• Inspect cooling fan to be sure fan

blades are intact and clean.

• Inspect cooling fins for dirt, grass clip

pings and other m aterials. To prevent
dam age to seals, do not use com
pressed air or high pressure sprayer to

clean cooling fins.

TRANSAXLE PUMP FLUID

The transaxle w as sealed at the factory

and fluid m aintenance is not required

for the life of the transaxle. Should the
transaxle ever leak or require servicing,

contact your nearest Sears or other quali

fied service center.

V-BELTS

Check V-belts for deterioration and w ear
after 100 hours of operation and replace

if necessary. The belts are not adjustable.

Replace belts if they begin to slip from

w ear.

ENGINE

LUBRICATION

O nly use high quality detergent oil rated

w ith API service classification SG -SL.

Select the oil’s SAE viscosity grade

according to your expected operating

tem perature.

NOTE:

Although m ulti-viscosity oils

(5W 30, 10W 30 etc.) im prove starting in

cold w eather, they w ill result in increased

oil consum ption w hen used above 32°F.

Check your engine oil level m ore frequent

ly to avoid possible engine dam age from

running low on oil.

Change the oil after every 50 hours of op

eration or at least once a year if the tractor

is not used for 50 hours in one year.

Check the crankcase oil level before

starting the engine and after each eight

(8) hours of operation. Tighten oil fill cap/

dipstick securely each tim e you check the

oil level.

• Be sure tractor is on level surface.

• O il w ill drain m ore freely when w arm .

• Catch oil in a suitable container.

1. Rem ove oil fill cap/dipstick. Be careful

not to allow dirt to enter the engine

slightly and turning counterclockw ise.

4. To open, pull out on the drain valve.

5. After oil has drained com pletely, close

and lock the drain valve by pushing

inw ard and turning clockwise until the

pin is in the locked position as shown.

6.

Rem ove the drain tube and replace the

cap onto the end of the drain valve.

7.

Refill engine w ith oil through oil fill dip

stick tube. Pour slowly. Do not overfill.

For approxim ate capacity see “PRO D

UCT SPECIFICATIONS” section of this

m anual.

8. Use gauge on oil fill cap/dipstick for

checking level. For accurate reading,

insert dipstick into the tube and push

dow n firm ly into place before rem oving.

Keep oil up to, but not over, the “FULL

line on dipstick. Push dipstick dow n

firm ly into the tube w hen finished.
