PROBLEM

POSSIBLE CAUSES

WHAT TO DO

Coff ee runs out around the edge of
the fi lter holder

Filter holder is not inserted in
the the brew head brew head
properly

Refer to ‘Inserting the fi lter holder’ on page 15.

There are coff ee grounds around
the fi lter rim

Clean any excess coff ee from the rim of the fi lter holder to ensure
a proper fi t into the brew head.

Too much coff ee in the fi lter

Refer to ‘Preparing the coff ee’ on page 14.

Coff ee has been tamped too
fi rmly

Refer to ‘Tamping the coff ee’ on page 14.

Incorrect fi lter for amount of
coff ee used

Ensure you use the small fi lter for 1 cup of coff ee and the large fi lter for 2
cups of coff ee.

Coff ee fi lters out in drops from the
fi lter holder

The water tank is empty or low

Refer to step 1 – Filling the water tank on page 13.

Coff ee grind is too fi ne

Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Refer to ‘The Grind’ on page 21.

Machine is blocked by mineral
deposits

Decalcify the machine; please refer to ‘Decalcifying’ on Page 27.

Machine is making a pumping noise

Water tank is empty

Refer to step 1 – Filling the water tank on page 13.

Water tank is not securely in place

Refer to step 1 – Filling the water tank on page 13.

Coff ee is too weak or watery

Coff ee grind is not fi ne enough

Ensure you use a suitable espresso grind. Use a dark roast coff ee
generally labelled ‘Espresso Blend’. Refer to ‘The Grind’ on page 21.
