Olson Technology Inc., S-890-D

NTSC VERSION

DESCRIPTION:

The Olson Technology Inc., S-890-D is a high quality television demodulator with front panel selectable
tuning. The unit is capable of tuning any VHF, UHF or cable channel from 54.00 to 801.25Mhz in
1Mhz increments. HRC channels may be tuned by setting the internal offset switches.

An I.F. test point is provided on the rear panel to monitor the tuner output or to drive an up converter.

There are two 75 ohm video outputs with switchable audio sub carrier. The audio sub carrier is also
available on a separate connector.

The audio output is balanced and drives a 600 ohm load. An MPX output is provided for stereo
applications.

The S-890-D occupies 44.5mm (1.75 inches) of a standard width 483mm (19.0 inches) equipment
rack.

FREQUENCY SELECTION:

Two DIP switch tables, listing all available video frequencies, are included. One for standard
frequencies (XXX.25Mhz) and one for HRC frequencies (XXX.00Mhz). The unit is shipped with
STANDARD frequencies selected. To select HRC frequencies, remove the top cover and find the 6
position DIP switch SW2 near the front, behind the front panel DIP switches.

The DIP switch tables show all 16 front panel switches. From left to right, the first 10 positions are the
L.O. synthesizer divide by "N" select. The least significant bit is on the left. The 11th position is not
used. 12 through 15 are tuner band switching. The 16th position is AFC - UP or ONE is OFF and
DOWN or ZERO is ON. The tables show this switch as a ONE. AFC is OFF in this position and is
turned ON only when the received signal is subject to frequency drift.

The switches on SW2 are numbered 1 through 6 and "ON" is indicated with an arrow pointing to the
right. The following table shows the settings for STANDARD and HRC frequencies.

0 = ON 1 = OFF
