Advanced auto discovery modes apply to various scenarios, as shown

Routing-Based Only the IP address of a gateway or router is known.
ARP-Based Fast device discovery is needed.
IPsec VPN-Based
You are concerned with the IPsec VPN-related devices
only.
Network
Segment-Based
You know the network segment planning.
PPP-Based
The IP address mask of interfaces connecting the Layer 3
devices in your network comprises 30 bits.
In addition to auto discovery of devices after your first login, IMC allows
you to add devices manually.

these two modes.
