Board Removal and Replacement

In addition to the retainer brackets, one or two mounting screws hold the boards in
place. (The PCI board, which provides local bus connection between the Master EDR,
Slave EDR, and Fibre Channel boards is an exception. See ‘PCI Board’, page 6-35).
Board removal requires a Torx tool with a T15 tip.

A guide that separates the board area from disk drive area aligns full-size boards into
the connectors on the Motherboard. When removing a short board, it may be
necessary to remove an adjacent full-size board to get a safe hold on the short board.

To remove a board:

CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not exert force on the rear-panel connectors
when removing or installing boards.

1. Perform the board retainer brackets removal procedure (page 6-31).

NOTE: Make a diagram of internal cabling to boards. SCSI cables and cables
between the Audio boards and their related Video I/O provide audio record clocks
and must be reconnected exactly as they were removed.

2. Disconnect any internal and external cables from the board to be removed.

3. Use the Torx tool with the T15 tip to remove any screws that secure the board to the

rear panel as shown in Figures 6-20 and 6-21. Note that not all boards use both screws.
