Control Panel Switches and Indicators
The printer control panels contain twelve momentary–contact switches (16 switches if the printer has
the PI–3287 option), four Light–Emitting Diode (LED) indicators (eight if the printer has the PI–3287
option), and a 32–character alphanumeric Message Display, as shown in Figure 2–2. The eight con-
figuration function switches on the Display control panel are accessible only when the printer cover is
raised. These switches and indicators are described on the following pages.

Alphanumeric Message Display
The Message Display shows printer status, operator selections, and fault condition messages. The dis-
play has two rows with sixteen characters per row. During normal operation, the display indicates the
on line status and the current print mode (and pitch) selection. When off line, the display reads OF-
FLINE READY or OFFLINE DATA IN BUFFER.
