The NonStop Automated Storage Manager

Through a graphical user interface (GUI), you use the ASM subsystem to define and
implement your storage management policies and automatically manage the various
aspects of system performance, file space allocations, and file availability in the SMF
environment. The ASM subsystem also features the ability to schedule regular backup
management and TMF management operations.

The ASM subsystem can help you to:

Manage file capacity

Archive files to a tertiary medium, such as tape

Determine efficient file placement across a storage hierarchy, including tapes and
disks

Maintain the availability of critical files

Use of the ASM subsystem requires that the SMF subsystem be installed and
operating on any host system you want to monitor and automate.

The ASM subsystem is a third-party product from Integrated Research. Contact them
for documentation for this product.
