Performance Monitor
Performance Monitor software provides detailed information about I/O activity and hardware
performance in XP7 systems. Storage system usage and performance data is collected and displayed
by Performance Monitor. This information helps you to:
•
Identify the optimum timing for performing Cnt Ac-S Z operations.
•
Determine the best locations for the Cnt Ac-S Z S-VOL (for example, parity groups with
less-frequently accessed volumes to avoid bottlenecks of backend activity).
•
Monitor system performance during Cnt Ac-S Z operations and during testing activities.
Procedure 6 To lower performance impact on Continuous Access Synchronous Z operations
1. If Performance Monitor is collecting large amounts of LDEV data, disable this activity for one
or more storage systems.
2. If Performance Monitor is collecting data for more than three storage systems on the XP7-internal
LAN, disconnect Performance Monitor, if possible, from one or more storage systems before
using Cnt Ac-S Z.
3. When Cnt Ac-S Z operations are completed, re-enable Performance Monitor data collection.

Business Copy Z
Business Copy Z volumes can be assigned to Cnt Ac-S Z pairs, and Cnt Ac-S Z volumes can be
assigned to BC Z pairs. The following table shows the configurations that are possible.

Please note the following when sharing Cnt Ac-S Z volumes with BC Z volumes.
•
L1 and L2 BC Z pairs can be shared with Cnt Ac-S Z volumes. Both node and leaf S-VOLs are
considered secondary volumes by Cnt Ac-S Z.
•
When using PPRC, the Split status cannot be distinguished from the V-Split status. If you share
an BC Z S-VOL with a Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL, either use the PPRC command to perform the Steady
Split operation, or use Remote Web Console to confirm the pair statuses. Perform the Steady
Split operation using the CSUSPEND parameters (specify the serial number of the PRIM as
MPS00).
Configurations with Business Copy Z P-VOLs
Cnt Ac-S Z can share a BC Z P-VOL in three configurations:

In the following figure, the Cnt Ac-S Z P-VOL also functions as an BC Z P-VOL. This configuration
allows you to use BC Z for on-site data backup in case of Cnt Ac-S Z failure. Or, the Cnt Ac-S
Z S-VOL can be used to provide remote backup of the BC Z P-VOL in case of an BC Z failure.
