2 Preparing for Version 1 Operations

This chapter describes the requirements and preparations for performing Version 1 operations.

Requirements for Version 1

You can establish a Version 1 relationship for other than simplex volumes.

SSID boundary setting

Version 1 can use a volume whose LDKC:CU:LDEV (logical
DKC: control unit image: logical device ID) is between

Available volume

00:00:00 and 00:FE:FF and between 01:00:00 and
01:FE:FF.

Under some environment configurations of the storage system, you may not use some of the
emulation types described in

(page 14)

.

S-VOL and T-VOL must be established in the same CU image.

When the SSID boundary is 64-LDEV, S-VOL and T-VOL must be established in the same CU
image and SSID.

When a relationship is established and the SSID boundary is changed from 256-LDEV to
64-LDEV, the SSIDs for T-VOL and S-VOL change and the relationship cannot be deleted from
the host. In this case, you should use the Remote Web Console to delete the relationship from
the ShadowImage for Mainframe window.

The SSID boundary of IBM ESS is 256 LDEV.

Calculating the Maximum Number of Version 1 Relationships

When you establish Version 1 relationships, resources called differential tables and pair tables
will be required. The number of available differential tables and pair tables in one storage system
depends on whether additional shared memory is installed. There are several patterns of additional
shared memory for differential tables and pair tables, and you can choose any pattern.

(page 15)

shows the patterns of additional shared memory.
