FlashCopy to Universal Replicator for Mainframe Primary Volume Function

The FlashCopy to Universal Replicator for Mainframe Primary Volume function allows you to share
Version 2 T-VOLs and Universal Replicator for Mainframe P-VOLs. When you share these volumes,
the status of the Universal Replicator for Mainframe pairs must be Duplex, Pending duplex, Suspend,
or Suspending. Also, you can either create Universal Replicator for Mainframe pairs after creating
Version 2 pairs, or create Version 2 pairs after creating Universal Replicator for Mainframe pairs.
However, Version 2 pairs can be created after creating Universal Replicator for Mainframe pairs
only if the following options are used:

DFSMSdss : FCTOPPRCPRIMARY

TSO : TGTPPRIM(YES)

ICKDSF : TGTOKASPPRCPRIM(YES)

ANTRQST Macro : TGTPPRIM(YES)

For details about using Version 2 with Universal Replicator for Mainframe see

(page 61)

.

Universal Replicator for Mainframe software is required for using the FlashCopy to Universal
Replicator for Mainframe Primary Volume function.

The FlashCopy to PPRC Primary Volume function can be used regardless of the status of
Universal Replicator for Mainframe.

Data that Version 2 copies to Universal Replicator for Mainframe P-VOLs are transferred to
Universal Replicator for Mainframe S-VOLs asynchronously. Universal Replicator for Mainframe
displays the progress of this asynchronous data transfer. Depending on the timing of the
Version 2 and Universal Replicator for Mainframe copy operations, a time delay may occur
between the Version 2 copy operation and the Universal Replicator for Mainframe copy
operation, and the Universal Replicator for Mainframe asynchronous data transfer may progress
slowly.

The copy process of Version 2 pairs and Universal Replicator for Mainframe pairs by the FlashCopy
to Universal Replicator for Mainframe Primary Volume function is the same as that of the FlashCopy
to PPRC Primary Volume function.

Preserve Mirror FlashCopy Function

In the FlashCopy-to-PPRC Primary Volume function, when you create a Version 2 pair, where a
TCz M-VOL becomes a T-VOL, the copying data of Version 2 is copied to the TCz R-VOL. However,
the TCz pair status is assigned a Pending status while copying, which requires additional time to
complete the copy. If an error occurs while copying, the TCz R-VOL data cannot be guaranteed.

The Preserve Mirror FlashCopy function allows you to copy the Version 2 data to the remote
site with the TCz pairs in Duplex status
