7 APPENDIX 2: COMPOSITE INSTALLATIONS
7.1 Types of composite installations
The SM328A matrix can be used in composite configurations where a number of matrixes are controlled
by a group of keyboards. This can be used for management of particular installations where a master
matrix collects the video output from a certain number of slave matrixes or where there is decentralised
control in different buildings.
It is possible to control the telemetry receivers connected to all the matrixes.
Two types of composite installation can be created using the SM328A matrix:
• parallel matrixes
• master/slave matrixes.
7.1.1 Limitations of composite installations
The installation allows manual selection of cameras present on more than one matrix. These cameras
cannot be used in predefined switching sequences.
Each matrix is independent and therefore any necessary event management, setup and management of
alarms/videoloss has to be carried out at the local level. Each matrix is able to control up to 8 keyboards,
which should have different ID numbers for each matrix: this means that keyboards with the same ID
number may only be present if they are connected to different matrixes.
The AuxA line is dedicated to communication between matrixes and therefore it cannot be used for
controlling telemetry or MUX/VCR in cascade with respect to the matrix. For this purpose, only the Aux B
lines of each matrix in the installation are available.
For this reason it is only possible to control a single type of telemetry in the installation.
The VCR cannot be used for slave matrixes in master/slave type installations.
A video signal cannot be carried for a distance greater than 300m. For greater distances use a
transmitter/receiver couple with twisted pair.
7.2 Keyboards
The control keyboards have to be set up in a particular way to allow correct management of the
installation.
The DCJ keyboards, starting from firmware version 9, are able to control composite installations.
7.2.1 Recalling the cameras
If a keyboard controls a video input from the matrix to which it is connected it is recalled in the usual way:

To control a video input from another matrix that is not directly controlled, the matrix number in the
hundreds should be used together with the camera number:

To use the camera selection more efficiently, we recommend enabling Views at the individual keyboard
level to predefine which 10 cameras are most frequently used by the operator.
Selecting a camera is always dependent on whether or not it is enabled for the keyboard.
