5. Operation

Clamping of foil pieces
• Move the movable jaw (48) to the right as re-

quired by turning the setscrew with an Allen

key size 4 (49).

• Place the foil (46) between the movable jaw

(48) and the fixed jaw (47).

• To clamp the foil, screw the movable jaw

(48) against the fixed jaw (47) by using the

Allen key.

• Insert the foil clamp (50) in the standard

specimen clamp as shown.

• Turn the knurled screw (40) clockwise until

foil clamp is clamped securely.

5.9.3 Foil clamp Type 1

(optional)

The foil clamp type 1 is appropriate both for

clamping very small and thin foil pieces and flat,

angular specimens. It is mounted in the stan-

dard specimen clamp.

Clamping of flat, angular specimens
To clamp angular specimens, replace the long

setscrew (51) with the short setscrew (52)

provided with the foil clamp.
• Unscrew the long setscrew (51) to the left

with an Allen key No. 4 (49).

• Screw the short setscrew (52) in the hole.

• Place the specimen (53) between the

movable jaw (48) and the fixed jaw (47).

• To clamp the specimen, press the movable

jaw (48) against the fixed jaw (47) by screw-

ing in the setscrew (52).

• Insert the foil clamp in the standard speci-

men clamp as shown.

• Turn the knurled screw (40) clockwise until

the foil clamp is clamped securely.
