Installing FactoryTalk AssetCentre
Machine Edition

Setting up FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition requires installing and configuring
several software packages. These are listed on the installation menu. The FactoryTalk
AssetCentre Machine Edition installation step in the menu launches a series of software
installations and utilities.

FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition must use a separate
FactoryTalk Directory from all other software

Install all components for FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition on the same
computer, including FactoryTalk Directory and FactoryTalk Activation server. If you are
installing more than one FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition workstation, install all
the components on each workstation. If you are using enterprise software, such as
FactoryTalk View Site Edition or FactoryTalk Historian Site Edition, that uses a
centralized FactoryTalk Directory and FactoryTalk Activation server, install these
components on each workstation computer for use only by the workstation (see following
drawing). In other words, consider each FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition
workstation a self-contained unit. Notice in the drawing that each FactoryTalk
AssetCentre Machine Edition workstation is on a separate computer and does not use the
same FactoryTalk Directory as any other software.

IMPORTANT: If you are using a firewall (such as the Windows Firewall), you must manually
permit File and Printer Sharing through your firewall. Consult the documentation for your
firewall software for instructions. You must also open Port 80 (or whatever port is used for
HTTP).
