Installing FactoryTalk Services Platform
See “Installing FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition software” on page 13 for the steps to
get to this part of the installation.
FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition depends on the Rockwell Software
FactoryTalk Services Platform to function. If the platform is not installed on your
computer (or if the correct version is not installed), the setup program will install it. If you
have a previous version of the platform installed, you may need to uninstall it before
continuing (the setup program will inform you if this is the case).
1. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the platform. If FactoryTalk Services
Platform 2.10.00 or 2.10.01 is already installed on your computer, go to step 4.
2. When you are asked whether you want to install the FactoryTalk Administration
Console, be sure the check box is selected (you will need the console to help you
configure the FactoryTalk Directory). Continue to follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Click Finish on the InstallShield Wizard for FactoryTalk Services Platform.
4. The FactoryTalk Directory Server Configuration window asks if the computer on
which you are installing the software is also the computer that will be the FactoryTalk
Directory server. Click Continue.
5. When you see a checklist window showing that the FactoryTalk Services Platform
components were all installed and configured, click Continue. This will proceed to
the next segment of the FactoryTalk AssetCentre Machine Edition server installation.
By default, all members of the Administrators group on the computer are added to the
Administrators group in the FactoryTalk Directory.
Respond to the FactoryTalk Directory Server Configuration window, explained in step 4, with
care. Correctly identifying the FactoryTalk Directory is essential to a properly functioning
system.
