The following prerequisites apply:
• VMware ESXi Server Machine up and running
• Only ESXi pay version is supported by this solution
• VMware Infrastructure Management Assistant VIMA 1.0 or vSphere Management Assistant (vMA 4.0
or 5.0) installed as guest
• Sphere Client installed on different machine to VMware ESXi Server configuration
• Dell ULNM package
• SSH client for installation and configuration
• SCP Client to upload packages to VIMA/vMA
• VMware tools installed on each VM
NOTE: DELL UPSs with the optional H901P Dell Network Management Card are compatible wi th the Dell ULNM on ESXi.
NOTE: RS-232 /USB connections of the Dell UPSs with ESXi host are not supported.
VMware free-versions suppress the ability for an application such as the Dell ULNM to manage host
shutdown profiles. There are third-party scripts that provide a workaround to this situation, but they are
not supported by this user’s guide and may affect your terms of free ESXi license use.
NOTE:

VMware ESXi Server 4.0/4.1/5.0 Configuration Prerequisites
For automatic OS boot on start-up, you must configure the physical machine to allow automatic OS
boot on start-up. This setting is present in your machine's BIOS. For further information, see specific
technical hardware documentation.
To allow interactions between physical and virtual machines, VMware tools must be installed on each
VM. For further information, see VMware ESX Server documentation.
The following procedure describes configuration of VIMA/vMA shutdown and startup properties:
1 From the Virtual Infrastructure Client interface, select the top-most item ESXi host server from left
hand side tree hierarchy (see Figure 87).
