Note

When you turn on the system power for the
first time, the disc tray starts rotating. You
can operate the CD player after the disc
tray stops rotating and "CD NO DISC"
appears in the display.

Setting Up the
Speakers for Dolby
Pro Logic Surround

Pfoper speaker positioning is essential in
order to achieve directional effects and
diffused ambience, especially in the case of
the surround speakers. Too much direct
sound from the surround speakers can
make its presence too obvious while too
much diffusion may result in a directionless
sound image. If it is not possible to locate
the surround speakers in the preferred way,
experiment with their positioning while
keeping in mind the goal is to achieve a

diffused and enveloping, but not overly
vague, sound field.

Position the left and right speakers so

that they form a 45° angle with your
listening and viewing position. The
surround speakers should be mounted
on the side walls as shown in step 4.

The two front speakers and center

Inserting the Batteries

Insert two size AA (R6) batteries in the
supplied remote.

Open the lid.

Match the + and - to the diagram in the
battery compartment.

Close the lid.

Battery life

You can expect the batteries to last for
about six months (using Sony SUM-3 (NS)
batteries). When the batteries no longer
operate the remote, replace both batteries
with new ones.

To avoid battery leakage

If you are not going to use the remote for a
long time, remove the batteries to avoid
damage caused by battery leakage.

Setting the Clock

The built-in clock shows the time in the
display.

Set the current hour by pressing or ►

(CURSOR CONTROL) until the correct
hour appears.

The minutes indication begins flashing.

Press ENTER/NEXT.

The dock starts running and the upper
dot flashes. Use the time signal to set the
clock accurately. The upper dot flashes
for the first half of a minute (0 to 29
seconds), and the lower dot flashes for
the last half of a minute (30 to 59
seconds).

To check the time while power is on

Press DISPLAY/DEMO a few times.
The current time appears for a few seconds.

To correct the clock setting

Repeat steps 1 to 5.
