SECTION 10 TROUBLESHOOTING

The following section describes problems that you might encounter when using the 9600 Nitrate Monitor and
provides suggestions that will allow the user to overcome the symptom without additional assistance. If you
still encounter the symptom after trying the suggested actions, please contact YSI Technical Support.

PROBLEM POSSIBLE

SOLUTION

Cannot communicate with 9600 when selecting
features (File or Start Deployment) from the Main
NUview display

Make sure that cable is attached securely to both the
9600 and the serial port of your PC.

Make sure that power is supplied to the 9600 via an
internal battery pack or an external power supply.

If using internal battery pack, make sure that battery
pack and 9600 cables are securely connected.

If using internal battery pack, make sure that batteries
are not expended. Check voltage with voltmeter or
replace with new battery pack.

Error messages appear after the Predeployment
Check routine.

Make certain that the second standard bag is attached
to the inlet port and that the pinch clamp on the bag is
“open”. If not, install the bag and/or open the pinch
clamp and rerun the Predeployment Check.

Make certain that the same concentration of nitrate
standard is present in the internal standard bag and in
the second standard bag that is attached to the inlet
port.

Rerun the Predeployment Check routine to make
certain that all air has been purged from the system.
If a error messages are observed after the second
attempt, remove the carousel from the outer shell and
make the following checks:

1. Are all of the pinch clamps on the reagent and

waste bags open? If not, open the pinch clamps
and rerun the Predeployment Check.

2. Are there any pinch points in any of the reagent

or waste lines? If so, realign the tubing to
eliminate the pinch points and rerun the
Predeployment Check.

3. Are all of the threaded fittings that connect the

reagent and waste lines to the bags finger tight?
If not, tighten the fittings and rerun the
Predeployment Check.

4. Are the proper reagent lines attached to the

proper bags as defined by the color-coding? If
not, attach the lines properly and rerun the
Predeployment Check.
