5. Are there any bubbles present in the reagent

transfer lines? If so, make sure that all
connections are finger tight, rerun the
Predeployment Check and look again for
bubbles.

PROBLEM POSSIBLE

SOLUTION

Cannot communicate in the field to upload or view
data.

Make sure that cable is attached securely to both the
9600 and the serial port of your PC.

Internal battery pack could be expended. Replace
battery pack and try again to communicate or use
external power supply.

When running the 9600 in the field from an auxiliary
power source such as a car battery or data collection
platform battery, no data is being acquired.

Make certain that you are using a 96XX series cable
with yellow overmolding on the connectors.
Auxiliary power cannot be properly supplied when
using a standard YSI 6-series cable with black
overmolding.

After uploading data in the field, data file cannot be
located on the PC for viewing in EcoWatch for
Windows.

Data will be located in the C:\PROGRAM
FILES\NUVIEW\DATA subdirectory. Browse to
this location in the EcoWatch File|Open selection.

After uploading data in the field and viewing in
EcoWatch, readings from deployment appear
“smooth” but seem grossly incorrect in terms of
absolute concentration values.

Make certain that you have entered the correct value
of the standard concentration into the Deployment
Set-up Wizard. For example, you might have
inadvertently entered “10” instead of “1.0”.

Make certain that the standard has been prepared
correctly. Be sure, for example, that you have not
inadvertently prepared a 10 mg/L nitrate-N standard
instead of the desired 1 mg/L standard. Check your
dilutions and calculations.

Data from deployment appears jumpy.

Make certain that the inlet port is completely
submerged at all water levels at your deployment site.
For example, make sure that the inlet port remains
submerged at low tide in an estuarine site.

Inspect the inlet filter for extreme fouling. Wipe
clean if heavy fouling is present.

Remove the carousel from the outer shell and follow
the instruction given above for Predeployment Check
failure. If problems are found and corrected, attach
second standard bag (with same nitrate concentration
as internal standard bag) to inlet port. Stop the
deployment and rerun the Predeployment Check in
the field to purge the system.

There might be excessive back-pressure within the
system from either pinched tubing or a defective
cadmium column. First remove the carousel from
the outer shell and inspect the tubing for pinch points.
If any are found, realign the tubing to eliminate the
crimps and continue the study. If no pinch points are
found, then stop the study, replace the cadmium
column and rerun the Predeployment Check.
