adjusting needle-thread

tension

Zig-zag stitching requires less needle-thread

tension than straight stitching; and closed zig

zag stitching requires even less tension than

open zig-zag stitching. Furthermore, the wider

the stitch, the lighter the tension on the thread

must be. Thus, stitch width 4 requires the least

tension; narrower stitching requires more.

Make a test sample with the fabric and thread

you plan to use and notice the stitching. If the

stitching looks too taut, or if the fabric is pucker

ing, lower the needle-thread tension by turning

the tension dial to a lower number.
