THE RÜFFLER

The length of the sewing

machine stitch also affects

ruffle fullness. Since a given

attachment setting puts an

equal amount of fullness into

each stitch regardless of its

length, shortening the stitch

(more stitches to the inch)

makes the ruffle fuller; lengthening the

stitch (fewer stitches to the inch) makes it

less full. For fine, closely spaced gather

ing use a short stitch and an outward

adjustment of the adjusting screw. For

deeper, less closely spaced gathering,

turn the adjusting screw inward and use

a medium length‘stitch.

• Insert material to be gathered between

blue blades and through first separator

guide.

• Draw to back of needle.

• Lower presser bar and stitch.

The texture of the fabric influences the

performance the ruffler as well as the

results. Soft fabrics, cut on the crosswise

grain, are best adapted for gathering

ruffles. Always test stitdi length and

ruffler setting on a scrap of self fabric

before proceeding with the actual work.
