2. Type in the

Destination

network (see

figure 132

). This number must correspond to the mask specified.

(For example, if you wish to forward a C class address you would leave the last octet as 0.)

3. Type in the Mask to define the network. This must correspond to the destination network. (For example,

if you wish to forward a C-class address you would specify the mask as 255.255.255.0.)

4. Type in the next-hop gateway.

5. Click

Add Route

6. The route will now appear in the routing table. To use the frame relay as the default gateway, enter the

next-hop gateway of the frame relay link in the gateway field of the first set of entry items. Click

Add Route

.

Link Status and the IP Forwarding
If the Frame Relay link is down, the address will automatically be removed from the routing table. If there are
any routes which specify this IP address as the next-hop, the routing table will show the state of

noPath(3)

(see

figure 133

).

When the Frame Relay Link returns to the UP state, the IP route for the link will be re-added and used to for-
ward IP packets. Any routes that specify this IP address as the next-hop will automatically return to the active
state.
