5.3.6 NAT

Introduction

Network address (and Port) translation (NAPT) is a technique used to share one IP
address amongst several computers. For most common applications, enabling NAPT
on a specific interface is adequate. From then on, all clients behind the NAPT router
automatically share the same IP address. To run one or more servers behind a NAPT
router, extra configuration is needed. On the NAPT page, you can specify these
settings.

Overview

The NAT menu consists of following sections:

Interfaces

Mappings

Templates

Interfaces

The Interface page allows you to enable/disable NAPT on a specific interface.

Proceed as follows to enable/disable an interface:

1

Select the interface that has to be enabled/disabled

2

Click Save All to make the settings permanent.

Mappings

The Mappings page allows you to map one or more private IP addresses into one or
more public IP address on a specific interface.
Depending on your needs following fields are available:

Interface

:

The name of the IP interface that needs to be NAT-ed.

Protocol

:

The IP protocol on which address translation has to be applied. This allows the
SpeedTouch™ to link specific traffic (protocol dependent) to a chosen private
host.

Outside address

:

The outside (typically public) IP address(es).

Inside address

:

The inside (typically private) IP address(es).

Access list

:

You can use the access list to define the address(es) that are allowed to use the
outbound connections.

Foreign address

:

Foreign address is to define the address(es) that are allowed to use the inbound
connections.

If you selected NAPT, you will have to specify a port range for the inside and
outside address.
