Glossary of Terms

ISO - Independent Sales Organization

LUNO - Logical Unit Number
A 3-bit identifier used on a SCSI bus to distinguish between up to 8-devices
(logical units) with the same SCSI ID.

LUO – Logical Unit
A primary component of SNA, an LU is a type of NAU that enables end users to
communicate with each other and gain access to SNA network resources.

LUT – Look Up Table

MAC - Message Authentication Code

NAU – Network Addressable Unit
The SNA term for an addressable entity

NCR – National Computer Registry

NRZ/NRZ1 – Non-Return to Zero

PAN - Personal Account Number

PIN - Personal Identification Number

A multidigit number that is used by somebody to gain access to an account at an
ATM, a computer, or a telephone

SCSI – Small Computer System Interface
An interface consisting of a standard port between a computer and its

peripherals that is used in some computers.

SDLC - Synchronous Data Link Controller
Manages synchronous, code-transparent, bit-serial communication that can be
duplex or half-duplex, switched or non-switched, point-to-point, multipoint, or
loop.

SGML – Standard Generalized Markup Language

An international standard markup system for the definition of system-independent
methods of representing texts in electronic form by describing the relationship
between a document’s form and its structure. SGML is used widely to manage
large documents that are subject to frequent revisions and need to be printed in
different formats.
