Figure 10 (page 43)

shows an example of an XP Business Copy S-VOL that is also used as

an XP Continuous Access P-VOL. This configuration requires that the XP Business Copy pair
be established in duplex mode (PAIR) and then split (PSUS) before the XP Continuous Access
pair is created.

Figure 10 Shared XP Business Copy S-VOL/XP Continuous Access P-VOL

CAUTION:

When you share an XP Continuous Access S-VOL with an XP Business Copy P-VOL

as shown in

Figure 8 (page 42)

or

Figure 9 (page 43)

, the write operation to the XP Continuous

Access P-VOL takes time. Specifically, when the XP Business Copy pair is in the PSUS(SP) status,
the write operation to the XP Continuous Access P-VOL may take extra time depending on the time
for the copy process of the XP Business Copy pair. In addition, note that in the case of XP Continuous
Access Asynchronous, the XP Continuous Access pair may be suspended by a failure because of
a capacity storage of its sidefile.

When performing the Quick Restore pairresync operation on the XP Business Copy pair that shares
the volume with XP Continuous Access Asynchronous, XP Business Copy P-VOL and S-VOL must
be allocated to the same CLPR. When the XP Business Copy P-VOL and S-VOL are allocated to the
different CLPR and if you resynchronize the pair in Quick Restore mode, you will fail to resynchronize
the XP Continuous Access Asynchronous pair. Specify the Reverse Copy mode instead of the Quick
Restore mode when resynchronizing the XP Business Copy pair that shares the volume with the XP
Continuous Access Asynchronous pair, and whose P-VOL and S-VOL are allocated to the different
CLPR. For information about XP Business Copy resynchronize operation, see the HP
XP24000/XP20000 Business Copy Software User Guide
.

Data Retention Utility

The XP Continuous Access software allows you to create a pair with volumes to which the access
attribute is set by using the Data Retention Utility software. However, you cannot create an XP
Continuous Access pair specifying a volume that has the S-VOL Disable attribute as an S-VOL.

Table 17 (page 44)

shows whether you can or cannot specify a volume with an access attribute

as a P-VOL or S-VOL of an XP Continuous Access pair.
