Operations

System Requirements

Siz operations involve the storage system containing the S-VOLs and T-VOLs, the Siz feature enabled

on the storage system, and (optional) the zSeries and IBM System z host PPRC software functions. The

Siz system requirements are:

XP12000 storage system. All XP12000 storage system hardware, microcode, and software

required for Siz operations must be installed and enabled.

Storage system (user-supplied Windows-based PC). See the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web

Console user guide for XP12000/XP10000 Disk Arrays and SVS 200 for instructions on installing

and using the Remote Web Console.

NOTE:

You must operate the Remote Web Console in modify mode to perform Siz operations. Users in view

mode can only view Siz information

Siz feature enabled on the storage systems, and Remote Web Console downloaded from

the HP StorageWorks XP12000 storage system to the Remote Web Console (see section

” on page 49).

Enabling Hitachi ShadowImage™ for z/OS Feature

The user enables the license key required for Siz operations on the XP Remote Web Console. To install

the Siz license key:

1.

Start the Remote Web Console for the desired HP StorageWorks XP12000 storage system. For

instructions, see the HP XP Remote Web Console User Guide for HP XP12000/XP10000.

2.

Enable the Siz options on the XP Remote Web Console and on each Siz storage system. If

you plan to use Compatible Mirroring for the FlashCopy Mirroring option, you must install it

also. For instructions, see the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web Console User Guide for HP

XP12000/XP10000 and the HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000 for FlashCopy Mirroring

Software User’s Guide.

Preparing for Hitachi ShadowImage™ for z/OS Operations

To ensure that you and your HP StorageWorks XP12000 storage system(s) are ready for Siz operations,

you should perform the following tasks:

Siz operations affect the I/O performance of the HP StorageWorks XP12000 storage system

because of the additional write operations to the T-VOLs. If you have not already done so,

you should consider the relative importance of the storage system‘s I/O performance and the

backup Siz copies. For example, assigning three T-VOLs to each S VOL takes more resources than

assigning only one or two. You can also use the Siz copy pace option to reduce the impact of the

Siz initial copy operations. Using a slower copy pace minimizes the impact of Siz operations

on I/O performance, while a faster copy pace produces point-in-time copies more quickly but
