DV terminal

• This is the terminal to input/output the video and

sound data of the video device.

• Because video and sound data are sent on the DV

cable as they retain the digital signal, image quality or
sound quality is less degraded even if the video is
copied to another tape. Besides, because the
direction of signal flow is automatically determined
according to the device condition, it is unnecessary to
replace the terminal according to input/output as for
the conventional video/sound cords.

• MotionDV STUDIO enables files to be edited in high

quality because the DV terminals are connected to
each other via a DV cable.

• The DV terminal is also called the IEEE1394 terminal.

Effect

• You can use the wide variety of effects (special

effects) produced by digital processing specific to
non-linear editing. Clips become videos with special
effects by computations on the personal computer
(digital processing), called rendering.

Frame

• As for the video film, the video on a video tape produces

motions by displaying still images continuously.

• For the NTSC system, about 30 still images are

displayed for 1 second. For the PAL system, about 25
still images are displayed for 1 second. One of those
still images is referred to as a frame.

Index

• In MotionDV STUDIO, you can add a mark (index) in

the video on an input tape.

• If you add indexes at any positions while viewing the

video on the tape being played, or at scene transitions
by detecting them automatically, you can import or
edit the video based on those indexes.

• Because the index information is managed as

MotionDV STUDIO information, nothing is added to
the actual tape.

JPEG file

• This file format adopts the data compression method

that thins out colour data from a coloured image to the
extent that the human eye cannot discern. JPEG is an
abbreviation of Joint Photographic Experts Group, and
derives from the designation of the committee that has
developed this compression format.
