Chapter 5

Note

Category Sync is not used with the Calendar application on Palm. In
versions of Palm OS before 5.2, Pylon uses PylonSelect instead of
categories for multiple Calendars. In Palm OS 5.2 and later, Pylon
only supports syncing of one Calendar database. Pylon only
supports syncing a single To Do database on all versions of Palm OS.

Note

Categories are handled similarly in both Lotus Notes and in
Pocket PC OS applications — both support zero or more categories.
Palm OS applications support only zero or one categories; when
syncing from Lotus Notes to a Palm device, only the first category
listed in Notes syncs to the device.

Note

Category values in records will sync normally to the device unless
the Category Sync field has a value or multiple filters are configured
for an application. If this field has a value, the records for this filter
will have the Category Sync value and not the records’ Category
field value when synced to the device. The Category field value will
remain in Notes, however. For example, if a record in Lotus Notes
has a Category value of “Travel” and the Category Sync value in the
filter is “Calendar A,” the Category value on the device after sync
will be “Calendar A.”. In Notes, the Category value will remain
“Travel.”

Note

If a Notes document is associated with two or more Categories in
Lotus Notes, your Category Sync entry is compared to the first Notes
Category to determine if the item should be included in a sync.

Caution

On Palm OS devices, Category names are truncated to 15 characters
— make sure your Category names in Lotus Notes do not exceed 15
characters in length if you are using a Palm OS device.

Private Record

: The feature refers to records that you mark as

Private. Click the drop-down arrow to display a Keyword list with
choices.
- Sync Private Items - syncs records marked as private just like
records that are not marked as private — this is the default
- Encrypt Private Items - syncs records marked as private, but
encrypt them first
- Do not synchronize - Private records that had not been synced,
before “Do not synchronize” was set, now will not sync to the
other side. If private records from either Lotus Notes or the
device have been synced to the other side (by using the “Sync
Private Items” setting), the “Do not syncrhonize” setting will
remove the private records from the non-originating side. If the
private value for any synced record (using “Sync Private Items”) is
changed, and the setting is changed to “Do not synchronize,” the
private field value will be synced on the first sync; on the second
sync the record will then be removed from the non-originating
side, if applicable.

For example: record A is created in Notes and synced to the
device, it is not marked private. On the device the record is
marked private. The private setting is changed from Sync to Do
not sync. The first sync recordA in notes will now also be marked
private, recordA is now "in sync" in Notes and on device. During
