Care of CDs
CDs are precision devices and will function
reliably if given reasonable care.

Always store your disk in its case when it is
not in use.

When removing the disk from its case, press
down on the holder’s center while lifting out
the disk by its edges.

Always handle a disk by the edges and avoid
touching the surface.

Avoid storing any disk in extreme
temperatures.

Do not bend disks or set heavy objects
on them.

Never write on the label surface with a ball
point pen, pencil or similar device.

If a disk is subjected to a sudden change from
cold to warm, condensation may form on the
surface. Wipe the moisture off with a clean,
soft, lint free cloth and then let it dry at room
temperature. DO NOT use a hair dryer or
heater to dry a disk.

If a disk is dirty, use only a CD-ROM cleaner
or wipe it with a clean, soft, lint free cloth
starting from the inner edge and wiping to
the outer edge.

HARD DRIVE

The internal hard drive capacity is dependent
on which model you are using. See Appendix A
(pages 176–180) for model information. If you
are using the optional modular hard drive for
the first time since you installed it, you can get
your notebook to recognize it by opening the
Windows 95 Control Panel and running Add

New Hardware which will step you through
the process of looking for your newly
installed device.

Formatting the Hard Drive
The hard drive inside your notebook is format-
ted (initialized) at the factory. You do not need
to format it under normal circumstances. If you
purchase an optional second hard drive you
will need to format it the first time you use it.
Check your operating system documentation
for information on initializing a hard drive.
