Troubleshooting

5-5

v1.0, May 2006

If the digital entertainer is set to use DHCP and fails to obtain an IP Address
from the server, it will resort to an auto IP Address in the range of
169.254.x.x. You can use a static IP address if there is a problem connecting
the digital entertainer to the server.

If the network connection fails, the digital entertainer will time out. Reboot
the unit.

Connecting to a Server

If the digital entertainer cannot find the correct server, try the following:

Verify that the Media Server software was installed on your PC.

Verify that the digital entertainer and the PC running the Media Server
software are on the same subnet and that they can communicate with each
other. In most cases, this means that the first three fields of the two IP address
should be the same. Communication can be verified using the Windows Ping
utility.

Using Ping

To use ping, follow the steps below:

1. From the Windows toolbar, click on the Start button and select Run.

2. In the field provided, type ping followed by the IP address of the EVA700.

Displaying the IP address is described in “IP Config” on page 4-4.

ping 192.168.0.2

3. Click OK. You should see a message like this one:

pinging <IP address> with 32 bytes of data

If the path is working, you see this message:

reply from < IP address >: bytes=32 time=NN ms TTL=xxx

If the path is not working, you see this message:

request timed out

4. If you cannot ping the media player, then your network may not be working

correctly.
