Location Lookup

The Location Lookup procedure employs various methods to try and find a destination address for a call which is closer
to the final endpoint, or finds reasons for rejecting a call (e.g. if the destination user has not logged on). The inputs to the
Location Lookup procedure are:

Request-URI

From-URI

Via list

Call Handling Rules

A user can configure the following call forwarding settings:

Forward All Calls - The Request-URI is rewritten to the specified URL by the SIP proxy.

Forward Declined Calls - If the user's SIP User Agent (e.g. BluStar 8000i terminal) returns a SIP "486 BUSY" response, the
SIP proxy will resend the original request to the specified SIP URL.

Forward Calls if Not Available - The Request-URI is rewritten to the specified URL by the SIP proxy if the user is not
logged in.

Forward Calls if Unanswered - The Request-URI is rewritten to the specified URL by the SIP proxy if the user does not
answer the call within the specified period. The SIP proxy sends a CANCEL request to the original SIP User Agent.

The Location Lookup takes these settings into account when making routing decisions.

Troubleshooting Location Lookup

A Location Lookup trace tool is provided in the Web User Interface in the Tools section. An admin user can type in the
Request-URI, From-URI and a list of Via IPs, and a trace is provided of all the decisions made by the Location Lookup. This
tool can be used for troubleshooting seemingly erroneously routed calls. If this does not address the problem, contact
the Technical Assistance Center for assistance.
