6 Troubleshooting

This provides information on troubleshooting FS.

General troubleshooting

General troubleshooting includes the following:

“Workflow for completing SIMs related to cache management devices” (page 140)

.

“Workflow for recovering blocked pools” (page 144)

.

The following table list the problems that can occur and the causes and solutions related to the
problem

Causes and solutions

Problem

Cause: The pool is blocked.

Pool information is not
displayed.

Solution: Recover the blocked pool (see

“Workflow for recovering blocked pools” (page 144)

).

Cause:

The pool has reached full capacity.

Solution:

A pool is blocked.

Recover the blocked pool (see

“Workflow for recovering blocked pools” (page 144)

).

2.

Solve the problems and complete the SIMs (see

“Workflow for correcting problems related

to SIMs” (page 141)

).

Causes:

The pool usage rate exceeds
the threshold.

The snapshot data in the pool has reached capacity.

You have insufficient pool capacity.

The pool threshold is too low.

Solutions:

1.

Complete one of the following:
• Decrease the pool usage rate by deleting the P-VOL’s snapshot data (see

“Resynchronizing

Fast Snap pairs” (page 83)

).

• Increase the capacity of the pool. To do this, add more pool-VOLs.
• Increase the pool threshold.

2.

Complete the SIMs (see

“Workflow for correcting problems related to SIMs” (page 141)

).

Note: Unused volumes are required to add the pool-VOLs. If unused volume do not exist, create
new volumes or contact HP Technical Support and have a representative add the data drives.
This problem may take time to solve.

Causes:

You cannot add pool-VOLs.

You have reached the maximum amount of pool-VOLs that can be added to a pool (see

“Increasing pool capacity” (page 118)

).

Available pool management block in the V-VOL management area in the SM is insufficient.

Pool-VOL requirements were not followed.

Solutions:

Add pool-VOLs to another pool.

Initialize the V-VOL management area.

Check pool-VOLs requirements.
