How Fast Snap works
This topic explains how FS works.
Fast Snap pools and pool volumes
FS stores snapshot data in pools. A pool consists of multiple pool-VOLs which are, as a group, the
container for the snapshot data.
For more information about pool requirements, see “Fast Snap data pool requirements” (page 30) .
The following figure illustrates the relationship between an FS pair and a pool.
You must create pools to use FS. You can create pools and add and delete pool-VOLs from them
using FS.
CAUTION: Calculate the pool capacity and reserve a sufficient amount of pool capacity when
creating pools (see “Calculating and assigning pool capacity” (page 34) ).
Snapshot data is not stored and you cannot create additional FS pairs if a failure occurs:
•
You write data to FS pair volumes.
•
The amount of pool usage exceeds the pool capacity
•
The FS pair is suspended (“PSUE” status).
