Values:
Value State Description
0 Both The reader can read during both card insertion and
withdrawal.
1 Insert The reader can only read during card insertion.
2 Withdrawal The reader can only read during card withdrawal.
3 Non-directional The reader can read any time a card with magnetic data is
swiped in either direction. The card-present and card-seated
indicators are not used for read detection during non-
directional reading. Only the signal from the magnetic stripe
read ASIC is used.
Caution:
Be careful when setting the MSR Arm State to Armed to Read Multiple times while
the MSR Direction is set to both or non-directional. The reason for this is the
user is in control of how fast the card is swiped. If the time period between an
insert and a withdrawal is too short, a new read may occur before the magnetic
stripe data can be processed and sent to the host. The same situation could occur
if the time period between a withdrawal and an insert is too short. This time
period depends on how soon the host requests data after a card is read. If the
read data is being sent to the host using a notification message then this time
period is 500ms maximum.
