After inspection—before being returned to service—chains should be lubricated with a

quality chain lubricant (Gradall P/N 1440-4751 or equivalent). The chains should be

articulated to make sure the lubricant penetrates to the working surfaces between the pins

and links. All surplus lubricant should be wiped away from the external surfaces. Do not

use solvent for this wiping operation.

Regular application of lubricant is necessary to make sure that all working surfaces are

adequately lubricated. Refer to the “Lubrication Chart” in the appropriate Owner/Operator

Manual and the decal in the operator’s cab for recommended lubrication intervals.

In extremely dusty conditions, it may be necessary to lubricate the chains more often.

Lubrication of chains on machines working consistently in extreme hot or cold conditions

requires special consideration. It is important that a reputable lubrication specialist—an

authorized Gradall Distributor, the machine distributor and/or the chains’ manufacturer—be

consulted for guidance.

When chains are reinstalled, they must be correctly aligned and the travel (rolling) path

must be free and clear.
