Install A Disconnect

1. Install a fused disconnect or
circuit breaker in the incoming
AĆC line. It must accommodate a
maximum symmetricalAĆC fault
current of 5,000 amperes for
controller ratings greater than 1
HP or 1,000 amperes for
controller ratings of 1 HP or less.
The NationalElectricalCode
requires that a two pole, fused
disconnect switch be installed on
the incoming AĆC line ahead of the
Drive. Fuses for this disconnect
switch should be chosen from
Table 2Ć3. They should be dual
element, slow blow type, or
Class K5.
The disconnect switch should be
within clear view of machine
operating and maintenance
personnelfor easy access and
safety. An openĆtype switch with
provisions for a padlock is
recommended.
