SureCross User Configuration Tool
The User Configuration Tool (UCT) offers an easy way to link I/O points in your wire-
less network, view I/O register values graphically, and set system communication pa-
rameters when a host system is not part of the wireless network.
The UCT requires a special USB to RS-485 (model number BWA-UCT-900 for 1 Watt
radios, BWA-HW-006 can be used for all other radios) converter cable to pass infor-
mation between your computer and the Gateway. Download the most recent revi-
Installation
The User Configuration Tool uses a USB to RS-485 converter cable to connect a SureCross Gateway to a USB connection on a comput-
er. Once connected, the User Configuration Tool will configure the one-to-one I/O linking and system polling parameters of the wireless
system.
Software
Before connecting a USB device, first download and run the 81398 DX80 User Configura-
tion.MSI program from Banner Engineering Corp's website (
). The program 81398 DX80 User Configuration.MSI installs the User Configura-
tion Tool and the driver for the Banner USB/485 converter cable (BWA-HW-006 and
BWA-UCT-900).
If the USB device is connected while loading the software, the driver installation may not
finish properly.
Hardware Connection
To connect a SureCross wireless Gateway to a computer:
1. Complete the software installation first. The program 81398 DX80 User Configuration.MSI installs the User Configuration Tool and
the driver for the Banner USB/485 converter.
2. Connect the USB end of the Banner USB/485 converter to a USB port on the computer. The computer should recognize the Ban-
ner USB/485 device.
3. Connect a Banner wireless Gateway to the Euro-style connect end of the Banner USB/485 converter. The Gateway device powers
up.¹ When using a third-party USB/485 converter, manually wire the communication and power connections. Refer to Banner’s
Gateway datasheet for the wiring pinout configurations.
4. Launch the User Configuration Tool. The program auto-detects the USB port and the SureCross Gateway; the status bar at the
bottom of the screen should indicate READY.
5. Use the Setup tab to select a USB port and baud rate if the SureCross Gateway is not automatically detected. The Gateway’s
factory default baud rate is 19.2k, 1 stop bit, no parity.
If you have more than one system connected to your computer, manually override the settings using the pull-down menus and clicking
the Connect or Disconnect buttons.
¹ The Gateway will not remain powered up until the computer recognizes and configures the USB port. After plugging the USB/485 con-
verter into the computer’s USB port, wait about 10 seconds for the Gateway to be powered (LED 1 solid green).
For most of the UCT screens, a grayed box represents a parameter read from the device while a white box is a parameter entered by the
user.
