Install New Impeller Bushing
If not installing a 401-956A fan motor update, continue at
Install Fan Cooler” on page 37.

Refer to Figure 33 (shown with fan RH housing transparent)
39. Select one new:

890-396C BUSHING - FAN

The bushing

includes three screws:

HHCS #10-24x1 INCH GRADE 8 FULL THREAD

These screws may be loose in a package, or may
be threaded into the drive-out holes of the bushing.
If threaded, remove them.

40. Make sure the surfaces of the bushing cone,

impeller central hole and impeller threaded holes
are free of any anti-seize compounds or other
lubricants.

41. Select one new:

168-094D HYD MOTOR 1/8 KEY

Place the impeller

onto the motor shaft

.

Place the cone end of the bushing

onto the

motor shaft. Rotate the bushing until the bushing
keyway and the motor shaft keyway align. Insert the
key

, making the outside end flush with the

bushing face.

Refer to Figure 34
42. Press the bushing

firmly into the impeller .

Check that the gap

between the bushing flange

and the impeller face is equal around the edge of
the bushing.

Equipment Failure Risk:
Mind the gap

. The flange to impeller face gap must not be

closed at any point, and must be as consistent as practical to
ensure proper key capture and minimize impeller run-out
during operation.

43. Place the three screws

into the drilled

(clearance) holes of the bushing. Thread them into
the tapped holes of the impeller, until the screw
heads just make contact with the bushing.

44. Using a small hand wrench, tighten the screw

nearest the key to just hand tight.

45. Tighten the remaining two screws alternately to

hand tight.

46. Using a torque wrench, tighten all three screws, in

sequence, one full rotation per screw, until the
specified torque is reached:

60 inch-pounds (5 foot-pounds, 6.7 N-m)

47. Check that the impeller spins freely and without

excessive run-out. If not, re-adjust seating screws
and re-tighten to torque spec.

Equipment Failure Risk:
Do not lose these screws

. If any need replacement, use

Grade 8 or higher strength, rated for 60 inch-pounds torque.
Using weaker screws has a high risk of impeller separation
during operation, substantial equipment damage, and some
risk of personal injury.
