effort otherwise spent manually entering information into the PowerPlay
early power estimator. You can manually change any of the values after
importing a file.

To generate the power estimation file:

1.

Compile your design in the Quartus II software.

2.

Click Generate PowerPlay Early Power Estimator File (Project
menu).

3.

Browse to a power estimation file generated from the Quartus II
software. The file name is:

<revision_name>_early_pwr.txt

For more information on generating the power estimation file in the
Quartus II software, refer to the Early Power Estimation chapter in the
Quartus II Handbook.

To import data into the PowerPlay early power estimator, perform the
following steps:

1.

Click Select Import File in the PowerPlay early power estimator. A
Import Data

dialog box opens (

Figure 2–2

).

2.

Browse to a power estimation file generated from the Quartus II
software. The file name is:

<revision_name>_early_pwr.txt

3.

Enter the global toggle rate. If you leave this box blank, the default
global toggle rate is 12.5%.

4.

Click Load Import File OK.

Clicking Load Import File OK clears any user-entered values in the
PowerPlay early power estimator and populates the PowerPlay early
power estimator with device resource information from the specified
power estimation file.
