Frequently Asked Questions

What are the preparation requirements for
IPS e.max CAD-on restorations?

The mandatory Ivoclar Vivadent preparation
guidelines for all-ceramic restorations apply also
to the IPS e.max CAD-on technique. Sharp edges
on the preparation are to be avoided in order to
ensure exact milling in the CAD/CAM system. In
addition, the width of the circular margin on the
framework can be reduced by designing a
pronounced chamfer.

Can the IPS e.max CAD-on technique also be
used to fabricate anterior restorations?

The fabrication of anterior restorations is supported
by the software. However, the esthetic properties
may be compromised depending on the clinical
situation.

Which materials determine the esthetics of
IPS e.max CAD-on restorations?

The desired restoration shade is the result of the
combination of the IPS e.max ZirCAD framework,
the IPS e.max CAD veneering structure and the
shade of the fusion glass-ceramic. If, for instance,
another framework shade is selected, the final
shade may differ.

Is it possible to use an IPS e.max CAD LT block
instead of an HT block for the fabrication of
IPS e.max CAD-on crowns?

Generally, an IPS e.max CAD LT block could be

used. However, the esthetic properties
of the resulting restoration might be
compromised.

How is it possible to fabricate an

IPS e.max ZirCAD framework in the shades
MO 3 or MO 4?

This can be achieved by shading IPS e.max ZirCAD
MO 0 blocks with IPS e.max ZirCAD Colouring
LIquids*.

Which are the software and hardware
requirements for the IPS e.max CAD-on
Technique?

The Sirona inLab

®

3D software V3.81 or higher

and a Sirona inLab MC XL milling unit are neces-
sary to fabricate IPS e.max CAD-on restorations.
The restoration is designed using the "Multilayer"
mode.

Is it possible to modify the suggested design
of the CAD-on framework with the design
tools?

It is possible to modify the occlusal area (e.g.
protruding connectors). However,
the circular surfaces must not be
edited, as this would compromise the
fit of the IPS e.max CAD veneering
structure.

Is it possible to manually grind the IPS e.max
ZirCAD frameworks with rotary instruments?

Grinding of the presintered IPS e.max ZirCAD
framework is restricted to smoothing out the
attachment point to the block. The sintered
framework is only fitted to the model, if required.
Any further processing is contraindicated, as it
might negatively influence the fit to the IPS e.max
CAD veneering structure.

How do IPS e.max ZirCAD frameworks need
to be prepared for sintering?

IPS e.max ZirCAD frameworks must be cleaned
and dried. IPS e.max ZirCAD frameworks
must not be cleaned with ultrasound
in a water bath or with a steam jet
or blasted.
