4.3. Fault

Messages

A fault is a failure of a hardware component, a software component, or some
combination of components. A fault typically results in both an event and an alert. Refer
to

3.5.5 Event Log

and

3.5.14 Alert Management

for more information.

Some hardware components are customer-replaceable units (CRU), as discussed in

Section 11 Removing and Replacing CRUs

and some are field-replaceable units (FRU).

If faults occur in CRUs or FRUs, the LED above the LCD turns amber and a message
appears on the fourth line of the main screen.

Figure 4-7

shows that faults occurred in

two FRUs in the named partition.

Note: The EXPRESSSCOPE® Monitor does not distinguish between CRUs and FRUs.
Instead, the term “FRU” appears on the LCD for both CRUs and FRUs.

Refer to the following paragraphs and

Section 10 Troubleshooting Hardware Problems

for information on handling CRU and FRU faults.

4.3.1. Viewing Fault Messages

If the main screen shows that faults occurred, press the OK button on the
EXPRESSSCOPE® Monitor to display the main menu. An option to view faults appears,
as shown in the following figure.
